Are Your Cravings Out Of Control?
Think about what you crave on a regular basis. Is it chocolate after every meal? Do you always hanker for a packet of chips or a giant bowl of pasta? We crave food for many reasons, here’s the science to explain (and what you can do to curb the hankering!) 1. Too Much Processed Food Eating lots of processed foods, with their empty calories and refined carbohydrates, puts the human body in an acidic state which can led to sugar and carb cravings. Solution: Lots of plant-based green foods, protein and complex carbs like quinoa, barley or brown rice. Supplemental nutrition to fill in deficiencies. (I take something every day that curbs my cravings and fills in my nutritional gaps. Ask me and I’ll shoot you that info!) 2. Low Blood Sugar A lack of quality protein throughout the day can cause spikes and dips in your blood sugar creating intense cravings for sugary, salty and fatty foods.
Solution: Include protein at every meal such as line caught fish, lentils, nuts and seeds. The fiber and digestive enzymes support a healthy metabolism. Add protein powder to a smoothie, or shake with almond milk on-the-go. 3. Stress Studies have found that the part of your brain that handles stress and the hunger hormone leptin both activate when people get a bad case of the munchies. Solution: Take 5-10 deep breathes per day and exhale out all the stale old air in your lungs to help oxygenate your blood and put that bounce back into your step. Also, exercise for at least 15 minutes with a brisk walk around the block or on a treadmill. These little consistent measures will lead to better health!
